The Wharfe in Spate

With the recent heavy rains of the last couple of weeks, and Friday in particular, the River Wharfe was running extremly high when we were out on Saturday. These first few pictures are taken at Ben Rhydding close to where the narrow road and pedestrian bridge crossed the river to go to Askwith.

The lush green fields viewed from the bridge.

Upon our arrival back in Otley we took the following pictures of the river near to Wharfemeadows Park.

The culvert leading up to Farnley Lane was also very full, but hadn't quite reached the road.

By Sunday morning the river level had dropped considerably in height. The Wharfe has the reputation, though, of being the fastest rising, but also fastest falling river in the country.
