On our third day we went up to Bassenthwaite Lake (the only Lake in the Lake District - the rest are all either Meres, Waters or Tarns!) We climbed the slopes of Dodd Fell to see the Ospreys who nest up there each year and who this year have two chicks.
After seeing the Ospreys we then went and walked to St Bega's Church before driving north and then east round the back of the Skiddaw Massif. At the eastern side of these Northern Fells are the hamlets of Calebreck and Mosedale where there are an abundance of fell ponies on the lower slopes of the fells.
After returning back to our accommodation near to Fisher Place, we walked down through the grounds to Thirlmere and round part of the lake which was very low at the time.
